seven kilometres north-east is a new performance from version 1.0’s Kym Vercoe (perfomer) and Sean Bacon (video artist), exploring the discomforting entanglements of place, tourism and atrocity. The work was triggered by a visit to the famous Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge, Bosnia-Herzegovina, in 2008. Completed in 1571, this bridge forms an historical link between east and west, made famous in Nobel-prize winning author Ivo Andrić‘s novel The Bridge over the Drina. The nearby Vilina Vlas Spa Resort in Višegrad, was recommended in a tourist guidebook, and so Vercoe checked in. It’s June already! It’s all been go, go, go for version 1.0, with barely time to come up for breath. And our busiest part of the year is yet to come! Yes, we will be working on four different shows in six different cities throughout August. But more on that later.
RUCKUS ON THE ROAD
Since our last e news, version 1.0 has performed THIS KIND OF A RUCKUS in Adelaide and Lismore to great acclaim. The Adelaide Advertiser raved that “you probably can’t afford to miss this show”, and awarded it a four star rating. The blog Festival Freak said of the show:

Well, it’s 2010 and we’re back in action, racing toward a huge year. Already, version 1.0’s Company Artists Kym Vercoe and Sean Bacon are in creative development at Sydney University’s Rex Cramphorn Studio for a new project seven kilometres northeast, a performance about geography, tourism and atrocity to premiere as part of Tamarama Rock Surfers’ 2010 Season at the Old Fitzroy Theatre in September/October.
